When I sat down to write this post today I was thinking about all my friends that are in direct sales. For the most part, we all work outside of the home either part-time or full-time, have families to take care of, homes to clean, groceries to buy and live very busy lives. Those that are fortunate enough to be stay at home moms also have very full schedules. So why did we all choose to get into the direct sales “business”?
I’m sure if each of them answered this question their answers would be as different as their personalities. I began in direct sales just before I got married a little of 17 years ago. I started because we had a very good family friend who was in direct sales for most of her adult life and very, very successful. This friend did a bridal shower for me and introduced me to the world of direct sales. Knowing that babies were not too far off, since I was 28 when I got married, our friend pointed out that getting started now would give me the opportunity to be home with my babies. I never dreamed of having a career in something, I just wanted to be a wife and mom. So this was the draw for me.
Many people start a direct sales business to supplement their current income, to get out of the corporate world and work for themselves, to get a discount on the products that they use so much of or to get away from the kids and have some adult interaction. I’m sure there are many that were coaxed into believing that they would get rich quick! If I know anything about direct sales I know it’s NOT a get rich quick scheme.
If you’re considering direct sales don’t be fooled into thinking you’re going to do a party or two and then let the product sell itself. You definitely get out of this business what you put into it! It takes work and lots of hours to build a successful direct sales business. Even if you’ve been doing this for awhile, you can’t sit back and hope to get results.
Be real about your expectations for what a direct sales business can do for you. Can you make extra money? Of course you can. Can you make enough money to stay home with your children? Again, of course you can. Will you have the freedom to make your own hours? Yes, but you need to be real about the amount of time you want to spend on this business.
What’s your answer to the question, Why Direct Sales? I would love to hear your thoughts and comments. Please leave them in the comment section below. Questions are always welcome and I will do my best to answer them honestly.
